Concert “Born in Riga” at the Latvian National Opera Square

In the evening of the 6th of July, the Latvian Radio’s Programme 1 and radio “Klasika” aired a live broadcast of one of the main “Riga 2014” events – the magnificent concert “Born in Riga” featuring international stars hailing in Riga who performed on a special open-air stage constructed at the Latvian National Opera building.

The concert featured Maija Kovaļevska, Inese Galante, Aleksandrs Antoņenko, Egils Siliņš, Miša Maiskis, Baiba Skride, Iveta Apkalna, Vestards Šimkus, Raimonds Pauls and Laima Jansone, as well as Latvian Radio Choir, State Choir “Latvija” and conductor Māris Sirmais, chamber orchestra “Kremerata Baltica” and an orchestra set up specifically for the project, comprised of best orchestra musicians from Latvia and Europe, and conducted by Andris Poga. The concert programme included some of the most famous classical music composers of all time, including six associated with Latvia.
