A red carpet is integral part of prestigious film award ceremonies. Couple of hours before the European Film Awards Ceremony in Riga, film stars had their chance to glitter on the ceremony’s red carpet and give brief interviews to journalists who had come to Riga from across Europe. German film director, European Film Academy’s President Wim Wenders was the first to step on the red carpet – he and his wife traditionally welcomed guests, nominees and the other jury members. He was joined by the European Film Academy Chairwoman Agnieszka Holland, European Film Academy Director Marion Döring, and Head of the “Riga 2014” foundation Diāna Čivle. The guests of honour at the festival included the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Agnès Varda, actress and director Liv Ullmann, film director Steve McQueen and others.
