Exhibition „20 Design Icons of France. Dialogue” (20 Francijas dizaina ikonas. Dialogs) presents the most powerful design objects created by the French design school during the 20th and 21st century, those which cracked conventional codes or ran ahead of time with a constant desire to serve, fascinate and impress.
The exhibition is part of the annual “Design Days” programme in Latvia and is brought to you by the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in collaboration with the French Institute in Latvia and the Department of Design of the Art Academy of Latvia.
For the organizers of the show it was important to add an educational dimension to the fascinating French design icon exhibition. Therefore they responded with great enthusiasm to the idea of the Museum to involve young designers in the making of the show. As a result, first and second year students of the Department of Design of the Art Academy of Latvia have worked on their interpretations of the featured design icons. Working under the guidance of Associate Professor Barbara Ābele and Assistant Professor Ervins Pastors, design students have come up with new works, best of which will be displayed in the exhibition.
