As part of the Riga – European Capital of Culture in 2014 – programme opening, the exhibition “1914” will be opened on 18 January at the Exhibition Hall “Arsenāls” and will take place till 20 April. The exhibition honors the 100th anniversary of WWI and it is a story about one of the major historic cornerstones, at the same time being an architectonic staging that focuses on three colliding zones – the conflict as dimension of time when the new age irreversibly transforms the previous value systems and other aspects; the conflict within – a person’s capability to sacrifice life by joining the war and fighting for their land; the geographical conflict – a space, where new powers declared themselves and the so-called “new Europe” begun forming.
