Marking the launch of the European Capital of Culture 2014 events in Riga, an exhibition “Riga and World Cities. Live Paintings” opened in the Exhibition Hall of the Latvian Embassy in Washington on the 7th of February. The exhibition of works by the Rector of the Art Academy of Latvia Professor Aleksejs Naumovs and Vice-Rector, Professor Kristaps Zariņš will be on display every Friday and Saturday until the 8th of March.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the two artists, organised at the initiative at the Latvian Embassy in Washington. The exhibition creates a bridge between Riga and Washington, in a literal as well as a metaphorical sense. At the heart of the exhibition of the two great modern-day Latvian painters are cityscapes and the special atmosphere found in metropolises and historic cities of Europe.
