Invitation to create „Tautas grāmatu plaukts”
It is a possibility to give an important and individually significant book to The National Library of Latvia that would be a present for the future generations with the additional message from its former reader. „Tautas grāmatu plaukts” („People’s Bookshelf”) will be placed at the atrium of the new library building and will be as high as a five-storey house. Architect Gunārs Birkerts planned that this book wall put in a glass construction will be one of the central building elements.
People are invited to give one book that they find especially important for themselves together with a written message or story put on the front page. Could this be a stamp, a coffee stain or some marked quotes? Is this book read a thousand times, bought by the first salary earnings or has travelled around the world?
Books will be collected at „Esplanāde 2014” culture and summer house until 15 November and in all libraries in Latvia until 1 November. Campaign members will receive special bookmarks created with the support from „DDB Latvia” advertising agency and Jelgava printing-house. The total number of books for „Tautas grāmatu plaukts” is up to few tens of thousands, that is why participants should hurry if they wish to join on time.
„Tautas grāmatu plaukts” will be available to every reader, also a website will be created where everyone will be able to see the titles of books given at the campaign, all authors, the canon of people’s book reading and other campaign activities.
