From 22 to 29 August, International Film Festival „Baltijas Vilnis” („The Baltic Wave”) will be traditionally held in Nida, but from 30 August to 1 September, Klaipėda will become a home city for the festival. This year, The Embassy of Latvia in Lithuania in cooperation with Lithuanian Cinematographers Union will draw special attention to Riga as The European Capital of Culture.

In order to invite visit Riga, films made by Latvian directors will be shown at the festival. „Mammu, es tevi mīlu” („Mum, I love you”) directed by Jānis Nords, „Mona” directed by Ināra Kolmane, „Pēdējā tempļa hronikas” („Chronicles of the last temple”) documentary directed by Dāvis Sīmanis and „Dokumentālists” („The documentarian”), a film made by Inese Kļava and Ivars Zviedris as well as Latvian animation.

Exhibition curated by The National Library of Latvia „Jūgendstils Latvijā” („Art Nouveau in Latvia”) will be curated in Nida in order to announce Riga as The European Capital of Culture. Art Nouveau architecture will be particularly emphasized at the exhibition, guests will be introduced with Art Nouveau influences in Latvian design and fine arts.

„Baltijas Vilnis” Festival will be held for the fifth time this year. Traditionally, the anniversary of The Baltic Way symbolizing the union of all three Baltic countries will be celebrated. Prime ministers from all Baltic countries support the „Baltijas Vilnis” idea, therefore, they have signed a common declaration dedicated to the twentienth anniversary of The Baltic Way.
