Pupils are invited to take part in „Rīgas kino” project
Project manager Marta Bite tells that the main activities of „Rīgas kino” will be several creative masterclasses and making of Riga suburbian area maps including the places that young people like the most and where they spend their free time. „We will search the areas in Purvciems, Āgenskalns, Moscow District or even Jaunciems together with those young people,” tells Bite who also adds that during the project, films about Riga suburban life will be made.
Starting from Monday, 16 September, pupils will be able to apply for 12 creative masterclasses until 11 October. Therefore, they will be offered to work with the professionals from animation and filmmaking. Three workshops will be held this year, but in 2014, there will be nine. „We invited Riga schools to take part in those activities. For now, 14 educational institutions have confirmed their participation,” tells project manager who also adds that Ivars Zviedris and Ilona Brūvere will lead the first masterclasses.
It is planned that more than 200 hundred children and teens from eight to eighteen years will take part at „Rīgas kino” masterclasses. Therefore, 48 films about Riga will be made.
„We won’t tell how to complete tasks during the filmmaking process. We will most likely reveal how a viewer reflects to your work if you do things in one or another way, what is the interaction between the viewer and director. It’s important to learn things from a professional point of view, but sometimes, if you act against the rules, some really excellent results may be achieved,” admits Ilona Brūvere, the director and superior of the masterclasses.
„”58 Rīgas”, as we sometimes call our thematic line „Ceļu karte”, is dedicated to 58 Riga suburbs and to people who live there. This project will mark the direction and form towards the way Riga inhabitants may find their sense of Riga, and what this city means to them. They can achieve it while meeting with professionals who help them to discover stories about Riga. This is the essence of the project. Nobody but Riga inhabitants can tell about Riga in the best possible way,” points out Diāna Čivle, the head of „Rīga 2014” Foundation.
Besides the official project applications, everyone is invited to send in films about Riga (further information will be coming soon), but the films made by children and teens will be screened to a wider audience also getting feedback and awards. The event will be held on 30 September, 2014, at „Splendid Palace”. Films will be screened in August, 2014, later to be put in Riga film collection where film magazines and movies from 1940s-1950s are already included.
