50 000 people visited „Esplanāde 2014” this summer

This year’s season at „Esplanāde 2014” culture and summer house has ended. From its beginnings on 27 June until 15 September, more than 50 000 visitors attended „Esplanāde 2014”.

200 events including „Rīga 2014” project presentations, creative workshops, concerts, European and Latvian movie nights as well as family events were held at „Esplanāde 2014”.

 „I am glad that „Esplanāde 2014” became an important part of Riga cultural life gaining atrraction of everyone who is interested in European Capital of Culture programme. I appreciate the input from our partners „Lattelecom” and „Ramirent” construction company who carried out the creative ideas of Austris Mailītis,” tells Diāna Čivle, the heaad of „Rīga 2014” Foundation.

78 volunteers joined „Rīga 2014” programme on a daily basis. „Esplanāde 2014” served as an informative platform to World Choir Games, Song and Dance Festival and „Positivus” Festival.

21 evening was dedicated to Latvian and European film screenings. 24 performances were organized including the following bands „Dzelzs vilks”, „Franco Franco”, „CanZone”, „Galaxy Bosons”, „Indygo”, „Lavrix Band”, „Astro’n’out”, „Very Cool People”, „Gapoljeri”, „Oranžās brīvdienas”, „Laime pilnīga”, „Crow Mother” as well as singer/songwriter Goran Gora.

Indie band „Tribes of the City”, ska performers „Mango”, pagan metal band „Skyforger” and alternative rock band „Pienvedēja piedzīvojumi” performed at the season closing event on 13 September. More than 5000 people attended the concert.

„ „Esplanāde 2014” continues to work. During rhis autumn, this object will work as a light installation until „Staro Rīga” light festival.

Several activities are scheduled for winter season, as well. Starting from January 2014, the newest information about European Capital of Culture programme will be available at „Esplanāde 2014”. In April, 2014, „Esplanāde 2014” will be opened again and will offer various cultural programme,” notes Čivle about the future plan.

„Lattelecom” supported „Esplanāde 2014” with free wi-fi and free-of-charge computers through all summer. „Esplanāde 2014” was made by the project of architect Austris Mailītis and construction work was supported by „Ramirent” company. „Galleria Riga” held Saturday’s programme for children as well as video shots for Latvian film nights and warm tea at the season closing event.
