„People’s Bookshelf” campaign at the Riga Congress Centre
Visitors will be able to exchange books for three days. During that time, they can give their special book to a „book wall”, one of the central places at Latvian National Library created by architect Gunārs Birkerts.
It is important that a reader leaves a special signature on the first page of the book. It can be a special message for the future generations, some story or just a reflection on personal feelings or thoughts. It might as well be the first book ever read or a significant „stepping stone” for choosing a future profession, or maybe it could be the favourite reading in cold winter nights.
Editors of „Satori” online magazine Ilmārs Šlāpins, Antonija Šlāpina-Skopa and Dace Bargā are telling about the give-aways they choose for „People’s Bookshelf”.
„People’s Bookshelf” will be available for everyone, also a digital archive is prepared where campaign members and other visitors might find information about the book titles, authors and other details related to the campaign.
Book exchange will operate at Riga Book Festival from 18 to 20 October on following working hours:
18 October, 11.00 to 19.00
19 October, 10.00 to 18.00
20 October, 10.00 to 16.30
Campaign organizers also note that everyone is invited to give their favourite book for „People’s Bookshelf” at any library in Latvia until 1 November.
„People’s Bookshelf” is organized by The Latvian National Library in cooperation with The Library Support Foundation and „Rīga 2014” Foundation. „People’s Bookshelf” is supported by „DDB Latvia” advertising agency and Jelgava typography.
