„Staro Rīga” Festival of Lights opened at The Riflemen Square
„Staro Rīga” will be opened on November 15 at 18.00, at The Riflemen Square (Strēlnieku laukums) where Mayor of Riga Nils Ušakovs will also take part at the opening together with Diāna Čivle, Head of „Rīga 2014” Foundation, and Līga Gablika, representative of „Aerodium”. A special performance curated by „Aerodium” will be held after the official opening event, it is going to be the first premiere in Latvia. The splendid show will represent the great skills that the project members will show in operating in a special light tunnel.
„Staro Rīga” invites everyone to enjoy the lighting shades and games in the darkly night hours of November. The festival held for the sixt time in a row will be a great present to Riga residents and foreign guests.
During the festival, more than 30 lighting objects will be shown in the urban environment, each of them representing European Capital of Culture. This year, the creative conception of the annual „Staro Rīga” Festival is titled „Six stories of joy” which introduces the main idea - six thematic lines- for next year’s European Capital of Culture.
The central route for the festival will be from Daugava river up to Jugla District with several branches in Old Town, Esplanāde, Miera Street and VEF Culture Palace as well as Teika Secondary School and Strazdumuiža.
One part of the objects registered for the festival will be presented during the upcoming events. Also other creative ideas will be shown at the opening weekend of European Capital of Culture from 17 to 19 January when „Staro Rīga” special edition will be held.
