Thursday, on November 21 at 18.00, the next „Science Cafe” curated by „RīgaPunkts” will be held at The Small Hall of University of Latvia. The following theme will be discussed this time: „Both hemispheres or, in other words- where the ideas come from?”. For this time, several excellent scientists from different generations will take part, also academician Jānis Stradiņš who celebrates his 80th birthday will be among them.

Science definitely is one of the greatest powers that completely has changed people's daily lives. People's will to explore the world have created lots of important discoveries, some of them are created through years of hard work, some of them are made spontaneously.

Thoughts about various origins of creating ideas, keen interest on science issues and thirst for knowledges through the whole lifetime, those are few issues that will be discussed at „Science Cafe”.

Academician Jānis Stradiņš and Mārcis Auziņš, Head of University of Latvia, will speak at „Science Cafe”. Also Pauls Daija, researcher at Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (ILFA), communication researcher Olga Procevska and Uga Dumpis, associated professor at The Faculty of Medicine, UL, will also take part. This time, „Science Cafe” is included in the event cycle of Jānis Stradiņš' anniversary.

The event will be led by Artis Svece, and it will be available online on section „live”. Also previous recordings from „Science cafe” are available, as well.

Before the event, also radio show „Zinātnes vārdā” („In the Name of Science”) will be broadcasted via Radio NABA (FM 93,1) on November 19 at 18.00. Pauls Daija and Olga Procevska will be the guests. The radio show will be hosted by Jānis Daugavietis and Aija Fedorova.

On November 23 at 22.00, also music gig will be held at „Nabaklab” where „Kirik Grim” (Finland) and DJ Klāvs Lauls will perform.

„Science Cafe” and both concert and show from „Zinātnes vārdā” are included in the event cycle „RīgaPunkts” where the main aim is to promote science through various cultural activities including lectures, concerts, exhibitions and radio shows. In 2014, Riga becomes The European Capital of Culture, therefore, „Science Cafe” is included in the thematic line „Survival Kit”.

The aim of „Science Cafe” is to open a discussion in free and informal atmosphere noting issues about science that the society is interested in. It's a possibility to meet experts, to ask questions and to find out still the unexplored about science.
