Riga delivers the choral baton to Sochi
Where few days ago athletes competed for gold, silver and bronze, choirs from all over the world will meet in two years and sing for the medals they hope to get hold of. Sochi becomes host city for the 9th World Choir Games 2016 and will therefore experience once again an international competition in two years, which is also known as the “Olympics of Choral Music”.

And only one day later the city settled a second promise. During a press conference Sochi Mayor Anatoly N. Pakhomov and „Interkultur” President Günter Titsch signed an agreement regarding the organization of the 9th World Choir Games in 2016.

“I’m delighted that „Interkutur's” World Choir Games 2016 are supported by both the Olympic city of Sochi and the Russian Government and will provide a new platform of international cultural exchange to the Russian people,” stated Günter Titsch at the press conference.

The 8th World Choir Games 2014 will take place from July 9 – 19, 2014 in Riga, Latvia. 490 choirs from 60 nations have registered to date. During the closing ceremony on July 19th, the city of Riga will pass the flag of the World Choir Games as a symbol of the Olympic idea on to Sochi.
