The Winter Festival is under way in Sigulda from the 1st to the 9th of March, the motto of the festival is “More Sport. More Art. More Recreation”

Sigulda, known as the Latvian capital of winter sports, gives every visitor the opportunity to enjoy the exhilarating winter activities at the bobsleigh and luge track, the ski slopes – and attend the Winter Festival, which features competitions and exhibition performances, art exhibitions and creative workshops, concerts and theatrical performances.

The Sigulda Winter Festival commenced on the 1st of March with the Tourism Rally, winter swimming and the special festival opening ceremony. The festival’s programme includes music performances at the “Baltais flīģelis” concert hall, dancing the cold away at the “Radio7” stage near the Sigulda Railway Station, exhibitions and much more.

The festival will culminate during the “Kings and Queens of the Ice Tracks” event, when the public will have the chance to meet famous sports personalities, watch various competitions, and enjoy music performances.

Do not forget – Sigulda is the only official partner city of Riga as the European Capital of Culture. The Winter Festival is part of Sigulda’s 2014 cultural programme.

1st of March

Tourism Rally gets under way at the “Sigulda” hotel from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Roķēni reservoir – competition “Winter Swimming in Sigulda”
Winter Festival opening ceremony at the Railway Station at 7 p.m.

3rd of March

Concert “Letters. Silent Songs” at the “Baltais flīģelis” concert hall at 7 p.m. The Latvian Radio Choir and actor Kaspars Znotiņš present the choir’s new programme.
Admission fee – EUR 10
“Radio7” Winter Stage at the Railway Station Square at 6 p.m.

4th of March

Winning entries in visual arts competition “Children in the Snow” (Bērni sniegā) displayed at the Sigulda Region’s Culture Centre
Photography exhibition “Sochi 2014” opens at the “Baltais flīģelis” concert hall at 6 p.m.

5th of March

Olympians host classes for in Sigulda Region schools

6th of March

Art happening “Sochi – Sigulda” at the “Baltais flīģelis” art school from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Unveiling of installations, interactive Kinect games.
“Neomodernism”, an exhibition of the cyclist and avant-garde artist Vladimirs Pavļučenko’s works, opens at the Sigulda Region Culture Centre at 6 p.m. The exhibition will run until the 30th of March every workday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

7th of March

Sports and music stars in the concert “Gleaming Spearheads” (Mirdzot šķēpiem) at the “Baltais flīģelis” concert hall at 8 p.m. Admission – EUR 7 to EUR 10.

Presentations of Olympic winter sports

New musical sand performance at Elmārs’ Smilšu Gallery at 3 p.m.
