„Riga Jazz Stage”: Kristīne Prauliņa takes Grand Prix in the Vocal Category

The winners of the “Riga Jazz Stage 2014” competition were honoured at the “Splendid Palace” cinema on Saturday, the 5th of April. The competition’s website informs us that the jury, which comprised experts from seven countries, had decided that Grand Prix in the jazz vocal category would go to Kristīne Prauliņa from Latvia, whereas the Grand Prix in the saxophone category – to Batuhan Salliel from Turkey, who also received a special prize for the best jazz improvisation.

Vytaute Pupšyte, of Lithuania, was placed second in the jazz vocal category and Russia’s Alina Rostockaya third. The Russian singer also received a special prize from the Maestro Raimonds Pauls.

Dāvis Jurka from Latvia was second in the jazz saxophone category, andToms Rudzinskis, also from Latvia, came third.

Another Latvian finalist, Rūta Dūduma was invited to participate in the festival “Rīgas ritmi 2014” and “Jazz Voices” in Lithuania. Kristīne Prauliņa received an invitation to perform at the “Nardis” club in Turkey, whereas Dāvis Jurka will have a chance to demonstrate his skills at the “Saxaphonia” festival. Toms Rudzinskis was offered a chance to play at the international festival “Nomme Jazz” in Estonia, and Daniel Varg, a saxophonist from Hungary – at the famous “606” jazz club in London. Batuhan Salliel, the winner of the best jazz improvisation title, was invited to perform at the “Fasching” club in Sweden.
