From the 24th of July to the 21st of August, ten open-air night performances “The Ladies’ Paradise”, on Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the culture chalet “Esplanade 2014”, will offer ten fashion designers’ interpretations of the European fashion history of the 20th century.

“The Ladies’ Paradise” night performances is a series of short slapstick shows about fashion history from 1900 to 2000. The first performance will be on the 24th of July, presenting two fashion designers’ shows: fashion from 1900 by Iveta Šurma and fashion in the 1910-1920 period by Anna Heinrihsone. The following actors will play the most prominent personalities of the period – Andris Bulis, Juris Jope, Ieva Pļavniece, Marta Ančevska, Jūlija Ļaha, Alise Polačenko, Ieva Aleksandrova-Eklone, Māris Bezmers, Andris Gross and Mārtiņš Brūveris.

The chief element of stage design for all ten “The Ladies’ Paradise” shows, each staged just once, is a large screen to recreate the felling of black-and-white footage of the period. The material shot for the project stars actors Egīls Melbārdis, Jānis Āmanis, Ligita Skujiņa, Marija Bērziņa, Artūrs Dīcis, Zane Daudziņa, Raimonda Vazdika, Dārta Daneviča, Ērika Eglija, Normunds Bērzs, Rihards Lepers, Ēriks Loks, Oskars Brambergs and others. Commentary about the scenes from a tailor’s shop, on screen and on the stage, will be provided by Ģirts Ķesteris, Kristīne Nevarauska, Mārtiņš Vilsons, Andris Freidenfelds, Indra Roga, Ivars Auziņš, Elita Kļaviņa and other actors.

Each show will present two new couture collections and interpretations on the fashion of a given period by Dace Krieviņa, Kristiāna Dimitere, Ieva Veita, Sandra Sila, Roberts Krauze, Elita Patmalniece and Natālija Jansone – on the stage, while costumes by Žanete Auziņa, Rūta Kuplā, Indra Salcēviča, Vita Radziņa and Sabīne Groza will be shown on screen, featuring befitting music and dance moves characteristic of the period.

The shows will follow the development of the European fashion until 2000 through witty, recreational, educational and amusing performances, whereas a one-hour intermission between the shows will be used by the artists to prepare for the next decade to be presented to the audience in one of the parks in the centre of the city.

Choreographers for the shows are Regīna Kaupuža and Ilja Vlasenko, camera by Elīna Bandēna, sound by Ģirts Bišs, film editing – Guntis Lēmanis, director – Ilona Brūvere. Make-up by Baiba Grīna, stage designer – Kristaps Skulte, scriptwriter and stage director – Ilona Brūvere. Produced by the film studio “Kinolats”. The project is curated by Diāna Čivle.
