“RE RE Riga!” to Feature Multiple Open-Air Performances
This is the second time “Folie FF” participates in the “RE RE Riga!” festival. This time, in collaboration with the music ensemble “Criminal Elephant”, the troupe will present the special show “Viktor and the Yellow Globe” – a story about a ministry employee who hurries to work every morning, until one day he discovers that his work is not needed. That is why he is now suffering from depression and gets drunk every night, to frantically hurry to work, which he does not have anymore, when he wakes up in the morning. The sun rises and sets every day, but the former ministry employee only sees it in his dreams. A special oddly-shaped metal construction is being built for the show, seven metres tall and ten metres wide, meant for the performance of acrobatic feats.
The circus studio “Folie” was founded in 2000. Currently there are eight trainers at the studio who teach around 90 young people. At the moment “Folie” is the only circus studio in the Baltic countries that prepare youth for entry exams in circus schools around the world. The “Folie FF” studio has been teaching circus arts for twelve years now. “Folie” also closely co-operates with youth circus studios in Western Europe; last week, “Folie” artists participated in the prestigious London International Youth Circus Festival.
The show by “Folie” and “Criminal Elephant” will take place at the square near the Riga Congress Centre at 9 p.m. on Friday, the 8th of August. Below is a “Folie” video trailer:
The other open-air performances at the Riga Congress Centre square:
“PanGottic” (Great Britain) in the show “Thingamabob”. The acclaimed circus theatre “PanGottic” is a young British/Israeli company based in Bristol, dedicated to creating and producing fresh new work which combines elements and techniques from physical theatre and contemporary circus for indoor, outdoor and street performance.
“Ymedioteatro” (Spain) micro-theatrical show “SIE7E” takes place in a room seven square metres in area, where three artists perform ten-minute shows for audiences of fifteen viewers on a miniature stage where the biggest dreams come true.
“Clunker Circus” (Finland) show “Fuzzy Dice Circus” comes straight from the parking lot of a 1990’s mall. The company was founded in 2013 by three artists from Finland. The company’s work is a mixture of creativity, stupid ideas, vividness, strong circus skills and a laid back approach to life.
“Re Re Riga!” is the largest international street art and world music event in the Baltics. The festival’s programme includes performances in a variety of arts – new circus, music, dance, street theatre and others. The second edition of the “RE RE Riga!” festival will continue from the 6th to the 9th of August 2014, bringing together more than sixty artists from twelve countries.
Tickets to the festival’s opening concert and shows at the Congress Centre are available from “Biļešu serviss” outlets and online shop.
