The Celebration of ‘24 faces of Pārdaugava’

On Saturday 25 in May, citizens and guests of Riga are invited to Arcadia Park where traditional celebration of Pārdaugava will start at 12.00 AM, organizer of the event Inese Meiere informed cultural portal 'Riga 2014.' This year, the theme of this traditional festivity is ’24 faces of Pārdaugava,’ reflecting the number of neighborhoods in this part of Riga – each with its own visual image, character and traditions.

From the start of the program at 12.00, the stage of the park will be open for concert of collectives representing Pārdaugava’s cultural centers and establishments of interests-related education; Ilga Reizniece and folk-group ‘Vārpas’ will take the stage at 14.00 to present their new album ‘Gadapkārti.’ (Round-the-years – Lat.)

At 16:00, the audience will enjoy musically poetic collage staged by singer Ieva Parša and her friends Aldis Liepiņš, Agnese Kanniņa-Liepiņa and Edgars Saksons, while 17.45 will be the time of popular music played by vocal-instrumental group BMMS. Ensemble ‘Pērle’ will dance at 18.15; 19.00 PM will be the hour of ‘Musiqq’ music, and ‘Sestā jūdze’ and fireworks at Māra’s pond will close the program at 20.00.

ArcadiaPark will hold creative workshops for entire day and offer entertaining and athletic activities to children. The Cinema tent will invite them to meet with animation artists Roze Stiebra and Ansis Bērziņš from 14.00 and see animation films, but director Dāvis Sīmanis’ documentary ‘Chronicles of the Last Temple’ will be demonstrated at 15.00. Other points of artistic interest will be open-air photo show and the winners of ‘Love alley’ competition will be awarded, and arts and crafts fair and café will be traditionally prominent part of the event.

The Sports hall in Victory Park will hold beach volleyball and street basketball tournaments, starting at 11.00.

Foundation 'Riga 2014,' the Railway Museum and many other participants of Pārdaugava festivity have prepared surprises for the audience of this event. Likewise, Museum of Ojārs Vācietis and Jānis Akurāters promise interesting festival programs and Kalnciema quarter will also invite public to enjoy a wide range of festive activities.
