A joint concert by the chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” and “Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra”, one of the most stylish avant-garde ensembles, will be at 7 p.m. on the 26th of September in the new concert hall “Riga” (the Academy of Sciences building). During the contemporary music concert conducted by Normunds Šnē, the two orchestras will perform new compositions by Daniel Gletzel, the head of the “Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra”.

Last autumn, “Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra” gave a concert at the festival “Rīgas Ritmi”, and during the Riga visit met with “Sinfonietta Rīga” musicians at several master classes. The creative spark that was obvious at these rehearsals has evolved into a major co-operation project. “This will be a yet-unprecedented synthesis of jazz and classical musicians,” emphasises “Sinfonietta Rīga” Artistic Director Normunds Šnē.

“Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra” does not fit into any of the classical music, jazz or popular music genres. It is a cross-genre ensemble playing music of various styles. Ever since its foundation in 2006, the ensemble, led by Daniel Gletzel, has been playing non-traditional music compositions.

Daniel Gletzel, the Head of “Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra”, comments on the project: “We are united in our wish to break through the boundaries that separate musical styles and genres. We want to have flexible mind and pure heart to get to the very root. We need freedom to express ourselves in sound, and I have chosen a new path that takes me away from all the styles of composition I know of. One aspect thereof is the particularly captivating and hard task to play quietly – to be silent together.”

The collaboration between the Riga and Berlin musicians is dedicated to Riga, the European Capital of Culture 2014.

The concert is organised by the Goethe Institute in co-operation with the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Senate of Berlin.

Tickets: EUR 7-21, available from “Biļešu paradīze” outlets.
