Latvia’s Best Volunteers to be Honoured in Riga
Any resident of Latvia, non-governmental organisations, and representatives from state or municipal institutions are invited to nominate candidates for the “Best Volunteer 2014” award. Any person may be nominated, regardless of age, sex and other social, physical and geographic factors. The aim of honouring the best volunteers is to prompt Latvian residents’ interest in voluntary service and encourage people and organisations’ involvement in the work of volunteers. Those who are entered in the competition for the award must have done volunteer work at some time in 2014, applications will be accepted through the 10th of November, 2014.
In order to register a candidate for the award, an online application has to be filled out here or a “Word” version of the application must be submitted at “piedalies.riga2014.org” by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org. The application has to be up to two A4 pages long. Please attach photographs showing the candidate doing volunteer work. Every applicant will receive confirmation that his or her application has been received.
The organisers of the project also call on Latvian local governments to participate in the International Volunteer Day celebrations on the 5th of December, with the best volunteers to be honoured during a ceremony in Riga. This is great opportunity to express gratitude to volunteers on a regional level.
Video stories will be created about the best nominees, which will be screened during the award ceremony and in a special TV broadcast.
This is the first time the project honouring volunteers is organised; the organisers are the “Riga 2014” foundation, Valmiera Region Foundation, Talsi Region Foundation, Society Integration Administration at the Jelgava City Council, Youth Department of the Daugavpils City Council, Education, Culture and Sports Department at the Riga City Council, association “Sadarbības platforma”, volunteer association “brīvprātīgais.lv”, and State Employment Agency.
