Latvian Voices Receive Gold Medal and Become Champions
The performance of Latvian Voices in the competition show was received with great applause, and as the singers themselves pointed out after the concert – the energy they received from the audience was unique and inspiring. At the Rīga presentation, the singers were also received with genuine enthusiasm, and their seven voices resounded throughout the large Duke Energy hall as richly as a hundred-voiced choir.
Latvian Voices, just like the Sōla choir, took part in the so-called “Champion’s Competition”. The strongest and best choirs were chosen for this group by the Artistic Council of the World Choir Games.
As reported earlier, the choir of the Latvian Academy of Culture, Sōla, also enjoyed success at the World Choir Games, receiving three gold medals – in the Mixed Choir, Folklore, and Musica Sacra categories.
The World Choir Games took place in the USA between July 4 – 14, with 15 thousand singers from 64 countries taking part. The next Games will be held in Rīga in two years – planned as one of the major events in its European Capital of Culture programme. Foundation Rīga 2014, organizers of the World Choir Games in Rīga, expect the Rīga Games to enter history as the largest ever event of its kind.
