The Riga 2014 Creative Information Space in a Park
The Riga 2014 Creative Information Space in a Park in the Centre of Riga
In the Esplanāde Park in the centre of Riga, the European Capital of Culture Esplanāde 2014 creative information space is now open. The space is open every day up until September 20. Organisers of the European Capital of Culture year have set it up as a publicly accessible space, hosting creative workshops and presentations of Rīga 2014 cultural projects. Anyone can play a game of Let’s Build Riga! and create their own ideal capital city. An information centre is operating in the Esplanāde. The space is open for informal meetings and talks in the city centre, and wireless internet and public access computers are available.
The Esplanāde is a place that has long held a special and spiritual meaning for the city. Older Rigans remember the Latvian Song and Dance Festivals held here in pre-war times, others reminisce of romantic evenings on the ice-skating rink, while someone else may recall the sense of togetherness experienced at the Poetry Days held by the Monument to Rainis, a famous Latvian poet.
Currently, the Esplanāde is facing new changes, since it is envisaged that the Rīga European Capital of Culture information centre will be located here during 2014.
In preparations for the year 2014, here, in the Esplanāde Rīga 2014 creative information space, a future vision is being born of what will happen and how during the European year of culture. The space is perfect for for discussions on how we would each like to see Riga, as well as meeting new friends, or just feeling at home.
