Street Art and World Music Festival „ RE RE Rīga!” will be held in Riga for the first time from 9 to 11 August, 2013. The festival is also included into the programme of the European Capital of Culture next year. More than twenty colectives covering street circus, street dance, theatre and music scenes will be performing at the festival.

Today organisers of the festival introduced to the event while holding the press conference at the „Noass” art gallery. They said that this festival is going to be a very special event by the time Riga becomes the European Capital of Culture.

„Riga is not ready, nor will it ever be. There are always new objects we can build. It also applies to those new projects that apprear in the cultural environment of Riga. Indeed, street art and different kinds of world music have been available in many forms, but not at the festival,” noted Diāna Čivle, the head of „ Rīga 2014” foundation adding that „RE RE Rīga!” will definetely be one of the brightest events of summer 2013. „We are satisfied with this great collaboration between Riga City Council, „ Rīga 2014” and „RE&RE”. This shows that a successful public partnership can be developed in the sphere of culture projects.”

Residents get the greatest benefit together with tourists and visitors coming to Riga. It will be a possibility to see Riga from a different perspective.

Mārtiņš Ķibers, the creative director of the festival, told that a theme for the first year is going to be world music and contemporary circus scene. Therefore, contemporary circus performances from French, Belgian and Dutch artists will be open for visitors. Also several jugglers and acrobats from Scandinavia will take part at the festival. „Those are professional artists who have higher education in this sphere. Unlike the usual circus performance those artists use traditional elements of this art: juggling, several power excersises, clowns instead of involving animals and performing at the arena. The show lasts almost one hour integrating different elements into one whole performance. The artist has to keep the attention during this time.”

Musicians invited to play at the festival will use traditional instruments presenting the sound of modern age, said Ķibers.

It’ s a music with strong roots showing that people can be so diverse in this global age.

Besides, every musician invited to the festival will visit Latvia for the first time.”

„Jaunie Toujours” (France), „The Refuses” (Russia), "Electric Jalaba" (United Kingdom), „Sus Dungo” (Latvia) and many others will play at the festival.

Stages of the festival will be located into five places of the city- AB dambis (AB embankment) with the main stage, Old Town, Opera square, Esplanāde, Zirgu pasts (Horses mail). Several creative performances will be available at the „Noass” art gallery.

All events are free of charge.
