"Rīgas ritmi 2013" international music festival has just announced a new programme. Māris Briežkalns, the creative director of the festival, said at the press conference that brand new, shining talents and well-known musicians will perform this year.
Organisers of the festival have always searched for new talents around Latvia and the rest of the world. Briežkalns announced that Slovakian guitarist Andreas Varady and multi-artist Butterscotch who plays piano and gitar as well as manages beatbox style will perform at "Rīgas Ritmi". Singer Somi who is now called "new jazz voice from Africa", will also join artists of the festival.

American pianist Robert Glasper, "Grammy" winner of 2013, jazz legend Diane Schuur from USA who has won two "Grammy" awards and "Medeski Martin & Wood", often called a jazz cult band mixing jazz and rock in their music, will perform at "Rīgas Ritmi".

"I am glad we can invite those artists to Riga who usually do not come to The Baltics around July!"

As every year, "Rīgas Ritmi" will hold several new projects this year. Laima Jansone will play lute on 6 July at Riga Congress centre stage performing together with a contrabassist Andris Grunte and percussionist Artis Orubs. Together they, in that event, will present their new folk-style album "Zarbugans". Experiments with several modes, harmonies and rhythm are included on this record. In fact, those musicians have recorded a new album together.

Jazz musician Deniss Paškevičs will offer various new projects curated specially for "Rīgas ritmi": duet "Frank/Pashkevich Expierence", where he plays together with Danish guitarist Christian Frank. Also DJ Monsta will also perform with Paškevičs, actually, this cooperation was advised by Māris Briežkalns himself.

Briežkalns also reminded about those festival values that have been put in the programme again. Those are, for instance, Daugava nightly jazz cruises on "Missisipi" ship. Two music projects will be showed every evening during the cruise.

Festival masterclasses will go on from 3 to 5 July at Latvian Radio 1 studio where Israeli guitarist Ori Dakari will share his knowledge, also previously mentioned pianist Glasper, American keyboards player John Medeski, Slovakian guitarist Varady and beatboxer Butterscotch will join them at the masterclasses. Briežkalns noted that music schools are gonna receive free passes to this event, but the rest of visitors will have to buy tickets.

"Rīgas ritmi" will be held at Riga Congress centre. "Egle" recreation park, Kalnciems quarter and "Origo Summer Stage". Nightly jazz cruises will be held at "Missisipi" ship. Nine concerts from the festival programme will be free of charge, for twelve of them tickets will be required.
