"Esplanāde 2014" guest day. Get to know "Umea 2014" programme!
Representatives from Umea, Swedish city in the north part, will show their programme of The European Capital of Culture also informing about some travel offers.
Sami singer Jörgen Stenberg will perform at 16.30 together with his band. They play traditional Sami songs with a "bit of a contemporary mood".
Jorgen is a Sami coming from a Swedish village close by Umea. He has received awards for spreading joik traditions and sharing his cultural heritage. Sami traditional songs are called joiks. Sami land or Sapmi, as they call it, is located to the north of Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia.
Also time counting until World Choir Games will be opened on Friday at 12.00 together with performances of vocal band "Latvian Voices" and mixed choir "Sola".
"Grodi" band will play later this evening at 18.40. "Grodi" participants have learned several vocal folk music genres such as one-voiced and many-voiced songs including traditional singing styles, recitative, refrain, etc. Several new and early music instruments are used in their performances.
Concerts, discussions, performances, workshops and shows will go on to the middle of September in this unique, transparent building. "Esplanāde 2014" is an open office space for "Rīga 2014" foundation, also a new meeting point for Riga residents and guests. Reading room of The National Library of Latvia, "Rīga 2014" information point, cafe, green terrace as well as free wi-fi and laptops supported by "Esplanāde 2014" partner Lattelecom is available.

"Esplanāde 2014" is open every day from 12.00 to 20.14 (or when the event ends). All events of "Esplanāde 2014" are free of charge.
