Time counting to World Choir Games will start
Time counting to this grand choir singing performance going on in 2014 will start with performances from mixed choir "Sola" and vocal band "Latvian Voices".
International joint choir conducted by Romāns Vanags, creative manager of World Choir Games, will sing "Saule, Pērkons, Daugava" ("Sun, Thunder, Daugava") by composer Mārtiņs Brauns. Thus, it will be a symbolic invitation for all choirs to sing in Riga next year.
The Minister of Culture in Latvia Žanete Jaunzeme-Grende, chairmanirman of the Mayor of Riga Andris Ameriks, head of "Rīga 2014" foundation Diāna Čivle and president of German culture organisation "Interkultur" (organisers of World Choir Games) Günter Titsch will join the event. Titsch has previously approved Latvian choir singing tradition when Latvian choirs gained great success at previous World Chair Games
World Choir Games are included in the programme of Riga as The European Capital of Culture from 9 to 19 July. 20 000 participants from 70 countries will compete in 29 contest categories. It includes sacral music, folk, jazz, contemporary music, etc.
It's currently known that winners of TV3 show "Koru kari" ("Choir contest") from Rezekne Zaļo pakalnu koris ("Green Hills Choir") will take part in the Games. Also several winners from different categories will join them: such as youth choir "Mask" conducted by Jānis Ozols, Babite region, girls choir "Spīgo" from 4th Jelgava High School conducted by Līga Celma-Kursiete, male choir "Forte" from Daugavpils Latvian Culture Centre, mixed senior choir "Atvasara" ("Indian Summer") conducted by Skaidrīte Pugača from Krustpils Culture House.
