Five alternative tourist routes in Āgenskalns showcase the architecture, cultural and historic landmarks, and the most noteworthy recent additions to the neighbourhood. The project “Mapping Local Trails” aims to make Pārdaugava an exciting and intriguing place for everyone who visits the left bank of the Daugava River – be it a local resident who is here on a daily basis or a tourist who would otherwise not even think about visiting the area. The routes exploring Pārdaugava are meant to show the architectural heritage on the left bank of the river, and tell the story of the neighbourhood via the experiences and memories of the most prominent residents in the area – as well as of ordinary passers-by.
The remaining “Pārdaugava Wooden Architecture Tour” excursions in the autumn of 2014 will be on the 17th and 24th of September at 6 p.m., the 1st of November at 6.30 p.m., the 4th and 18th of October at 12 noon, and the 1st and 8th of November at 12 noon, starting from Kalnciema Quarter.
“A Walk by Pārdaugava Resident: Changes in H2O (Ūdens) iela [Water Street] and the Imperceptible Lure of Zunds” will be on the 1st of October starting at 5:30 p.m. at the bus No. 3 stop “Kliņģeru iela”.

Active Neighbourhoods is a series of events that make living in a city more inspiring and foster a sense of belonging and responsibility for the area we live in. Activities proposed and implemented by residents of Riga continue throughout 2014 in various neighbourhoods of the city. These include tours of the area planned and guided by locals, artistic meetings en plein air, photography campaigns, celebrations, festivals, lectures and discussions, which all centre on people and their infinite wish to invent and create something new, receive guests and have a great time with them.
