“Riga 2014 Solstice” will close with a ball all night long – dancing to and singing songs from Latvia, Europe and the world. All the participants, ensembles, soloists and guests of “Riga 2014 Solstice” festival, led by its musical director Juris Vaivods, will be able to stretch their legs going through traditional dance routines from all over the world – the ball will feature not only traditional folk music of Latvia, but also the Greek sirtaki, Spanish flamenco, German polka, Finnish letkis and much more. Everyone is invited to the night ball, which will be the largest nocturnal event to take place at the Mežaparks Stage in 2014. The “Riga Swirling in Dance” ball will start on the 23rd of June at 1 a.m.

This year, the summer solstice in Riga will be celebrated by the „Riga 2014 Solstice” - a two-day event celebrating the summer solstice traditional Latvian style, presenting various traditions and rituals marking the summer solstice in Latvia as well as in other countries of the world. The programme of the “Riga 2014 Solstice” also includes the dance performance “Lec, saulīte!" (Rise, Fair Sun!), presentations of summer solstice celebration traditions by musicians from all over the world participating in the World Summer Solstice Festival, the World Beer Parade offering the public an opportunity to taste various beer brands from Latvia and other countries and the Riga Solstice Crafts Fair. The celebrations will close on June 22 with dancing and singing all night long.
