The official opening ceremony for the World Choir Games will take place at the “Arena Riga”. The opening ceremony will feature the parade of nations and raising of the World Choir Games’ flag, presentation of the Games’ Jury, and ringing the Peace Bell, as well as performances by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, singers Renārs Kaupers and Intars Busulis, saxophonist Oskars Petrauskis, Latvian National Ballet artists, dance ensemble “Dzirnas”, several choirs and folklore groups, a bagpipe ensemble, also speeches by Latvian President Andris Bērziņš and the German association “Interkultur” President Günter Tietsch. The World Choir Games is the largest international quire singing event on the planet and, not without reason, is known as the choir singing Games. The next such event will take place in Riga as part of the program of Riga – the European Capital of Culture. Ten years ago, the board of the world choir Games was joined by maestro Imants Kokars who has devoted great efforts to bringing event of this cope to Latvia, which is known as one of the quire singing giants. From 2008, his work was taken over by conductor Romāns Vanags.
