Project description:

The title for the project “Café Spleen or August 1914” at Jānis Akuraters Museum has been borrowed from “Café Spleen”, a short story by Akuraters about a “humane refuge” that artists-turned-riflemen have created in a sauna building where they meet in the evenings to talk about life and art “beyond” the war. During the project, “Café Spleen”, an army tent, will be set up in the museum’s garden to house various shows and performances about poets and artists at war, causality, and the connections between various periods in history.
