This year’s "Riga Festival" will feature a special event involving children cared for by the city’s Department of Social Services. These children will be taught the basics of dance by expert dance teachers and later participate in a musical performance together with other artists and dancers. About forty such children, ages 7 to 15, will participate in the performance together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. The performance will be staged by Norwegian stage director Sigrid StrØm Reibo, choreographer and dance teacher Agris Daņiļēvičs, and Swedish conductor Christian Lindberg. The performance will feature excerpts from American composer Leonard Bernstein's compositions - “West Side Story”, “On the Town” and others.
