Following the "Riga 2014" thematic line "Thirst for the Ocean", the "Sound Forest" festival this year will seek to find an answer to the question, "How not to drown in the oversaturated ocean of music?" Solutions will be provided by balancing out electronic music with acoustic performances, ambient music with rhythmic music, genre purity with post-modernist experiments and interdisciplinary programming, thus achieving an equilibrium that will help Riga's sound aficionados and enthusiasts to stay on course in the endless waters of contemporary music.
The headliners of the music festival “Sound Forest 2014” are: singer and composer Blixa Bargeld, the frontman of the “Einstürzende Neubauten” band, who will perform solo at the festival, German programmer and musician Robert Henke or Monolake who brings to Riga an impressive laser-sound show “Lumière”, the critics’ darling, experimental dance music producer Andy Scott, American singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler, known for her uniquely eerie and captivating voice, whose sixth solo album “July” won unanimous critical acclaim earlier this year, American composer and free improvisation trailblazer Wadada Leo Smith who in 2013 was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Music, the project “Innode” that includes members from such bands as “Radian”, “Pan American” and “Elektro Guzzi”, synthpop duo “Xeno & Oaklander” from Brooklyn, and other musicians.
