The guidelines of the “Tenso Days in Riga” programme are: the mystical, the profane, and the sacred are crossroads, at which different eras in music meet the uniqueness of national choir culture, and the novelties of choir music meet the modes of traditional singing, creatively synthesizing the components of vocal and other forms of art. Participants in the contemporary music concert include RIAS “Kammerchor” (Germany), “Eric Ericsons Kammarkör” (Sweden), Philharmonic Chamber Choir Estonia and the National Symphony Orchestra of Latvia, conducted by Kaspars Putniņš. Together they will perform the “Symphony of Psalms” composed by Igor Stravinsky, one of the brightest and most difficult choir music opuses of the 20th century.
Also participating in the concert will be Sigvards Kļava’s Latvian Radio Choir that will take the listeners to the fairy-tale worlds of Kārlis Skalbe, Hans Christian Andersen and Brothers Grimm. The programme also includes American composer David Lang’s “The Little Match Girl’s Passion” and world premieres of the fairy-tale worlds created by composers Ēriks Ešenvalds and Līga Celma. Video projections by director Roberts Rubīns will add an extra value to the concert, making it a contemporary art experience.
